The "Fattoria Poggerino" is a small, organic and biodynamic family run winery located in the heart of Tuscany’s Chianti Classico production zone.
It consists of 106 acres (43 hectares) of vineyards, olive groves and woods, with a few old traditional stone houses and a 12th century church.
The winery is one of the properties of a large estate which used to belong to Prince Ginori Conti, a descendant of one of Florence's oldest families. Floriana Ginori Conti inherited the winery from her father in the 1970s, and began in 1980 to produce a Chianti Classico with the "Poggerino" label.
In 1999 she handed over the property to her two children, Piero and Benedetta Lanza, who had been managing it since 1988.
Piero is the oenologist and agronomist at Poggerino.
He is really a 100% wine lover; apart from the work in Poggerino, he has visited and had experiences in several wine regions around the world.
He runs about the vineyards on his quad controlling the plant’s growing and grape’s ripening and…searching for traces of his great enemy: the wild boar!
Benedetta runs the accommodation at Poggerino.
Most of the time you will find her in the kitchen preparing breakfast and dinner for the guests, or taking care of the garden.
She loves nature and plants and spends her spare time in the vegetable garden growing the giant pumpkins together with Stefano.
